What Clavenzo is

Clavenzo is a free app for end-to-end encrypted voice calls, video calls and messages. It is made for free speech: it is given to everybody, free of charge, so that anyone can talk privately. It has no accounts, shows no advertisements and sells no data.

Who can use it

You must be at least 13 years old. Where the law requires an older age to agree to the processing described in the privacy policy (up to 16 in some countries of the European Economic Area), you must be at least that age. You must also be allowed to use Clavenzo under the laws that apply to you.

We provide the app as it is

We make the app and run the servers that introduce devices to each other. We do not control, supervise or monitor what people do with Clavenzo, and we cannot: calls and messages are encrypted end to end, so we cannot see who is doing what. We are not responsible for the actions of the people who use it.

What you must not do

We are strongly against any use of Clavenzo that is unlawful or that harms people: harming a person, harming others, or harming children and the generations to come. You must not use Clavenzo to:

1. Create, send, share or ask for sexual content involving a child, or harm a child in any way.
2. Harass, threaten, stalk, bully or intimidate anyone, or encourage violence against anyone.
3. Send spam, including unwanted bulk messages or calls, or run scams, fraud or phishing.
4. Pretend to be someone else in order to deceive or harm.
5. Send malware, or attack, overload or misuse our servers or relays, or use them for anything other than Clavenzo calls and messages.
6. Break the law where you are, or where the person you contact is.

Anyone who does any of this has no right to use Clavenzo.

Blocking and reporting

We cannot block anyone. Clavenzo has no accounts to close, and we cannot see what anyone sends. The protection is in your hands:

• Block. Block someone from their conversation, or by holding their row in Chats; Report and block in the conversation's menu blocks too. They can no longer call you or send you messages, and they are not told. It works at once.
• Stop using Clavenzo. If blocking is not enough, uninstall the app. The privacy policy explains what that deletes.
• Report. Report and block also opens an email to abuse@clavenzo.com with the reported address and room for a note. Nothing from the conversation is attached unless you add it yourself. You can also write to abuse@clavenzo.com with the address and what happened; we cannot see your messages, so screenshots help.

A report reaches us, but we keep no names, no images and no messages, we cannot see what is sent, and we do not know who is behind an address. So there is nothing we can look up or act on. Blocking is the protection that works.

What we cannot do. We cannot read messages or listen to calls, because they are encrypted end to end. We cannot block an address or remove anyone from Clavenzo. We cannot delete anything from anyone's device. We do not know the name or phone number behind an address. We cannot stop two devices on the same Wi-Fi from calling each other directly.

You are responsible for what you do

Everything you send, say, share or do through Clavenzo is your responsibility. Encryption means we cannot see it. It does not make it acceptable.

Encryption is restricted or illegal in some countries, and some require registration or key disclosure. It is your responsibility to know and obey the law that applies to you. If using encrypted communication is unlawful where you are, or having this app could be used against you, do not install it and do not use it.

Verify who you are talking to

With no certificate authority and no accounts, there is one thing that rules out an impostor in the middle of your conversation: comparing the safety words the app shows during a call, or the code it shows for a contact, with the person you believe you are talking to.

The app gives you the tools. It cannot do the comparing for you, and it cannot warn you that you skipped it.

Your identity is yours to keep safe

Your identity is a cryptographic key made on your device. It is your address and your proof of who you are. Its private half stays on that device unless you export it yourself.

We cannot recover it, reset it or hand it to anyone, because we have never had it. Backups are your responsibility: export your identity and make an encrypted backup before you change or wipe a phone.

What we cannot do for you

• We cannot read your calls or messages, so we cannot settle a dispute about what was said.
• We cannot recover a lost identity or your chat history. They exist only on your devices.
• We cannot delete a message from someone else's phone. Delete for both asks their app to remove it. It is a request between two phones, not a power we hold.
• We cannot tell you who is behind an address. Only you can check that, in person or over a channel you already trust.

The service may change or stop

We run the servers and relays in good faith and free of charge. They may be changed, moved, reduced or unavailable at times, and we may end the service. Calls between two devices on the same Wi-Fi do not need our servers in the cases the privacy policy describes.

No warranty

Clavenzo is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we give no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that it is fit for a particular purpose, that it will always work, that it is free of defects, or that it will protect you from any particular adversary. Encryption reduces risk. It does not remove it. Do not rely on Clavenzo, or on any app, as your only protection where safety, liberty or life is at stake.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Diamente LLC and the people who make Clavenzo are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, privacy, messages or profits, arising from your use of Clavenzo, from being unable to use it, or from anything another user does. Our total liability for any claim about Clavenzo is limited to 50 US dollars. Some places do not allow these limits. Nothing in these terms takes away a right you have under the law of your country that cannot be limited by contract.

Ending your use

You can stop using Clavenzo at any time by uninstalling it. The privacy policy explains what is deleted, and when.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be decided by the state or federal courts in Travis County, Texas, unless the law of your country gives you the right to bring it in your own courts.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we change the date at the top and publish the new version on this page. The apps show the terms from here. If you keep using Clavenzo after a change, the new terms apply.
